Independent political analyst Masingita Mkhawana has emphasized the need for a coalition framework to address political instability in hung municipalities across the country.
Thabazimbi was one such hung municipality following the 2021 elections, and its council was dissolved after years of instability.
Tomorrow, 21 political parties and five independent candidates are set to contest by-elections.
Mkhawana argues that it is essential for the country to introduce legislation to ensure the effective functioning of hung municipalities.
"Regarding the Thabazimbi by-elections, we are likely to see a situation where no political party wins an outright majority to govern the municipality. Instead, parties will have to collaborate. What is needed is a clear, written framework to guide what needs to be done," she said.
