Amazon Launches First Stem Hub In Africa

Amazon has launched a groundbreaking STEM education initiative in Cape Town, marking its first Think Big Space on the African continent.
The programme, in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Tangible Africa, is set to revolutionise digital learning by equipping educators with vital coding and robotics skills.
With a goal of training 100 teachers to impact 10 000 high school learners, the initiative spans six South African provinces. The focus is on addressing the stark disparities in STEM education, particularly in under-resourced rural and township schools, as reported by Tech Financials .
South Africa, like much of sub-Saharan Africa, faces an alarming shortage of educators in science and technology subjects. Reports indicate that millions of additional teachers are needed to bridge the education gap by 2030. The Think Big Space is Amazon's answer to this challenge, offering a hands-on, low-tech approach aligned with South Africa's evolving curriculum.
Educators participating in the programme will receive expert-led training in coding fundamentals, supplemented by ongoing mentorship and digital support through Tangible Africa's dedicated WhatsApp portal.
