In April, Xolile Sizani was appointed to save PetroSA but was suspended by the board after six months.
The state-owned entity refused to disclose the allegations against him, even when MPs demanded answers.
Documents obtained by amaBhungane suggest that PetroSA fabricated a weak case against Sizani after he threatened to derail a politically influenced gas deal. On June 14, Sizani terminated an offshore gas deal involving political operator Lawrence Mulaudzi, citing unmet conditions in the contract with EquaTheza Oil and Gas.
