Saudi giants Al-Nassr have reportedly abandoned its plans to sign Sporting CPs star Marcus Edwards due to a clause set by Tottenham Hotspur. Edwards had been linked with a move to Al-Nassr last summer with the Saudi club almost triggering his release clause, according to multiple reports. However, a move never materialised with the Riyadh side spending over £125 million on transfers after acquiring Seko Fofana, Alex Telles, Marcelo Brozovic, Otavio, Aymeric Laporte, and Sadio Mane. A recent report by A Bola revealed that Al-Nassr are planning to make a second attempt this summer and will submit an improved bid for the winger, who is also reportedly in talks with Crystal Palace. However, according to Saudi publication Arriyadiyah , Al-Nassrs talks with Edwards wont go any further due to a cause set by his boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham are set to receive 35% of Edwards resale value, forcing Al-Nassr to abandon the negotiations due to the Portuguese clubs high demands to mitigate the clause. Tottenham have owned 35 percent of the players commercial rights since leaving the club in September 2019 for Portuguese club Vitoria Guimarães on a free transfer. Edwards, 25, is a product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, making just one appearance for the first team, before moving to Portugal where he has made a name for himself.
