According to the South African Development Plan, 90% of new jobs must be created through entrepreneurship by 2030.

The Gordon Institute of Business Science Entrepreneurship Development Academy has done research on township businesses which shows that over two million people get employment from these entrepreneurs.

Managing Executive of Corporate Education at GIBS Business School, Lerato Mahlasela says there has been a change in funding for township businesses.

Mahlasela says, If you think about it, 2.5 million people are employed by these entrepreneurs that are in the townships. We are talking about economic activity of about R900 million. So, has funding changed? I would say it is changing. What enables success is for preparation for some of the individuals in terms of readiness for capital.
