The all-new BMW X3 has officially launched in South Africa, marking a new chapter for the midsize sports activity vehicle SAV with enhanced luxury, advanced technology, and a range of powertrain options including diesel, petrol, and plug-in hybrid variants.
The latest X3 is proudly produced in South Africa at the Rosslyn-based assembly plant, which received a R4.6-billion investment. About 96 of the production is expected to be exported to international markets, continuing the legacy of the outgoing X3, which has been a key export model since 2018, taking over from the 3 Series.
Among the standout features of the new X3 is the X3 30e xDrive plug-in hybrid PHEV variant. This version combines a 2.0-litre turbopetrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 220kW and 450Nm. BMW claims the PHEV can cover up to 90km on electric power alone, making it an eco-friendly yet high-performance option for drivers.
