An alleged planned hit on City of Cape Town Manager Lungelo Mbandazayo was foiled over the weekend by the Maitland Flying Squad, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Mbandazayo was in charge of an investigation into companies who did business with the municipality after CoCT official Wendy Kloppers was shot and killed at the Symphony Way Housing Project building site.

At the time, he said her death was the result of the Citys refusal to succumb to the demands of gangsters seeking work from contractors at the housing project.

Several companies owned by Nicole Johnson , the wife of alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield , were blacklisted during the time of the investigation.

'He (Mbandazayo) is causing a major aggravation to the persons whose companies are being blacklisted and if he succeeds, which he is, it will embolden local authorities to act similarly and that must be a cause of concern for these syndicates,' the City's Mayco member for security and safety JP Smith told Daily Maverick in April.
