Alleged Copper Thief To Appear In Northern Cape Magistrates Court
A 28-year-old man is expected to appear in the Douglas Magistrates Court in Northern Cape on Friday, for having stolen copper and causing damage to infrastructure, estimated at approximately R300 000.
The suspect was arrested after he was found with a black plastic bag filled with copper.
Provincial Police Spokesperson, Merapelo Pilane says, "Two members of the Plooysberg Crime Prevention Unit reacted immediately to the complaint. On their way to the farm, they came across a male carrying a black bag.
He was subsequently stopped and searched and found in possession of a bag containing copper cables. He could not provide the police officials with a satisfactory explanation or provide them with proof of ownership of the copper. The farmer positively identified the stolen copper as that which was allegedly stolen from his farm, Pilane explains.
