Airlink Restores Seasonal Cape Town-st Helena Flights

Direct Airlink flights between Cape Town and St Helena Island resumed on Saturday, December 7, marking the return of the seasonal route. These flights will operate every Saturday until March 29 next year, complementing the weekly Johannesburg-St Helena route on Tuesdays during the summer season.

Accessibility to destination

Prior to the introduction of commercial flights in 2017, travel to St Helena required a five-day sea voyage from Cape Town. Airlink now offers a more convenient option with the approximately six-hour flight, including a refuelling stop in Walvis Bay.

Rodger Foster , Airlink CEO and Managing Director, stated For travellers with a keen sense of adventure and history, St Helena remains one of the most unspoiled and fascinating destinations to visit. It is a privilege to operate this route.

Tourism significance

The seasonal flights are essential for St Helenas connectivity, serving local residents with ties to South Africa and international tourists.

Matt Joshua , Head of Tourism for St Helena, emphasised the routes importance. By linking the Mother City directly with St Helena, Airlink provides a convenient service to a destination that holds a unique mystique for many. Cape Town serves as a vital gateway for international visitors from the UK, Europe and beyond.
