Afriforum's Kallie Kriel Unfazed By Hawks High Treason Investigation
Chief executive of civil society group AfriForum, Kallie Kriel, says complaints of high treason being investigated by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Hawks are baseless.
In an interview with SABC News on Monday 3 March, Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya confirmed the probe without revealing the identities of the individuals or organisations under scrutiny.
There are four dockets that have been opened by different people, maybe from different political parties, that concern some individuals that may have crossed the border to go and communicate some things that are perceived to be in the direction of high treason, Lebeya said.
AfriForums Kallie Kriel not losing sleepReacting to the news later on Monday, Kriel said he will not be having any sleepless nights over this, as these complaints are baseless.
If the state however goes ahead with this, it will make us stronger. It will confirm the point that there are African National Congress ANC leaders that are abusing their powers to govern against certain sections of the population, he added in a video shared on X .
Its also ludicrous because we have many ANC leaders implicated in corruption at the Zondo Commission on state capture and the Hawks are not acting against them.
Kriel said courts will give AfriForum a platform to show the world and the country how ANC leaders are acting against the interests of the country.
They are disloyal. AfriForum, Solidarity and Solidarity Movement are loyal because we are fighting in the interest of the South African people, he claimed.
In February, uMkhonto weSizwe MK Party opened a treason case against the group, accusing it of lobbying foreign powers to act against the sovereignty and economic interests of South Africa.
MK Party laid the charges after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order cutting US aid to South Africa. Trump cited false claims of government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation, against Afrikaners.
