Afriforum Backs Legal Action Against New Legal Sector Code

AfriForum has voiced its support for Norton Rose Fulbright SAs legal challenge against the governments new legal sector code.

The law firm has approached the courts to block the implementation of the code, which seeks to increase black participation in South Africas legal industry.

The firm argues that the code places unreasonable and impractical demands on large law firms.

AfriForums Head of Public Relations, Ernst van Zyl says the organisation opposes the use of what it calls racially discriminatory legislation to achieve transformation goals.

"AfriForums stance is that you shouldnt be using racially discriminatory legislation to try and reach any goal in South Africa. Because racially discriminatory legislation in itself, in principle, is wrong. There are many other ways and means that can be followed to increase black participation in the legal sector.
