Afconq: Caf Fines Libya 50,000 Over Misconduct Against Benin

The Confederation of African Football CAF has fined Libya 50,000 and mandated that the country plays two matches behind closed doors following incidents of misconduct by supporters and officials during their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON qualifier against Benin on November 18 in Benghazi.

This sanction follows a series of controversies surrounding Libya, including a highly publicised incident in October where Nigerias Super Eagles faced deliberate mistreatment ahead of an AFCON qualifier.

Libya diverted the Nigerian teams aircraft to an unsafe airport, causing significant delays and forcing CAF to award Nigeria three points after the match was canceled.

In the latest ruling, CAF also dismissed Guineas appeal to disqualify Tanzania from the 2024 AFCON.

Guinea had alleged that Tanzanian substitute Ibrahim Ame wore a shirt number 26 that was not listed on the official team sheet.
