A reward for information about a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred over nine years ago in Fort Lauderdale has been upped to 7,000.

Broward Crime Stoppers confirmed Tuesday morning that they are offering a reward of up to 5,000 for information about the Aug. 29, 2015, crash that leads to an arrest. An additional 2,000 reward is being offered by friends and family members of the victim.

The reward will expire on Sept. 3, 2025.

Fort Lauderdale police said James Ortibez, 39, was riding his bicycle around 130 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2015, near the 900 block of Northwest 13th Street, when a car struck him, knocking him off his bike and into the street.

Investigators said the driver of the car -- a gold four-door Volkswagen CC -- then took off without stopping to help.
