24-hour Water Outage At Wiggins Water Treatment Plant Begins Tuesday

UMngeni-uThukela Water will conduct a 24-hour shutdown of its Wiggins Water Treatment Works from 4 am on Tuesday. The service will resume on Wednesday at the same time.

eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo says the shutdown aims to replace a gravity sales meter and check pipeline meters for billing accuracy.

The central and southern parts of the eThekwini Municipality, which are supplied from the Wiggins Water Treatment, will experience water disruptions during this time.

In order to prepare for the shutdown, UMngeni-uThukela will fill up the affected reserviours to capacity, but we urge the community to use water sparingly. This will help the system recover in the shortest possible time. Although the shutdown is for 24 hours, it could take up to 2 weeks for reservoirs to recover, especially in higher-lying areas Maphumulo elaborates.
