22 Firearms Recoverd By City Of Cape Towns Law Enforcement
The City of Cape Town says a total of 22 firearms have been recovered by the citys law enforcement and metro police officers in the past two weeks. The Citys Safety and Security spokesperson, Ruth Solomons, says in the latest incident, law enforcement officers were doing patrols in Hanover Park on the Cape Flats on Saturday night when they responded to a ShotSpotter alert.
Shotspotter is a sound technology that identifies gunshots in an area and alerts Cape Town authorities. Solomons says when they arrived at the location, they found three suspects in possession of a firearm.
Earlier in the afternoon, officers standing down at a fire scene noticed a suspect with a firearm tucked in his waistband. He ran away. And during the pursuit, the suspect took aim at the officers - one of them then fired a shot, wounding him in the leg. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and then taken into custody.
