Four people were injured, including two toddlers who were ejected from a vehicle, following a two-vehicle collision on Krome Avenue in southwest Miami-Dade on Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred when a Mercedes Benz SUV, traveling east on Southwest 256th Street, failed to yield the right of way and drove into the path of a Toyota sedan heading south on Krome Avenue. The front of the Toyota collided with the right side of the Mercedes, according to investigators.

FHP Lt. Alex Camacho confirmed that two toddlers inside the Toyota were ejected from the vehicle upon impact, landing on the roadway. He said they were airlifted to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition.

Camacho said both drivers were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene as troopers canvassed the area and redirected traffic. The Mercedes, which had visible damage to its front end and windshield, was being loaded onto a tow truck.
