11 Arrested For Illegal Mining, Drug Possession In Northern Cape
Police in the Northern Cape have arrested eleven suspects in the Frances Baard and Namakwa Districts for alleged illicit mining and alleged possession of suspected drugs.
Members of Operation Vala Mgodi arrested two suspects for possession of dangerous weapons and possession of suspected stolen property at Samaria informal settlement situated near a mine.
Four other suspects were nabbed for possession of drugs in Galeshewe.
Meanwhile, in Kleinzee three other suspects were arrested for illegal mining and being undocumented.
Provincial Police spokesperson Molefi Shemane says, The members operationalised the information and arrested two suspects, aged 33 and 34 years old, for possession of dangerous weapons and possession of the suspected stolen property. The team further conducted patrols around the mining hotspot areas and arrested two undocumented persons aged 26 and 42 years old. In Kleinzee, members were conducting disruptive operations at Buffel Bank and Nuttabooi when three suspects aged 29, 43 and 46 years old, were arrested for illegal mining and for being illegally in the country after they failed to produce documentation allowing them to be in the country.
